Chinese Valentine's Day

Actually I got nothing to blog about, but since I saw this article just now, I decided to post a short entry about it. It won't take too much time also. =P

Chinese Valentine's Day is on the seventh of the seventh lunar month. I think not many people know about this except for Chinese or Asians. Why? Because people tend to follow the international one which is on February 14th. However, a legend actually contributes to this celebration, that is the story about Niu Lang and Zhi Nu.

On Thursday evening, Niu Lang and Zhi Nu will meet on a bridge of magpies across the Milky Way. Chinese grannies will tell children that they would not be able to see any magpies on that evening because all the magpies have left to form a bridge in the heavens with their wings. And the article actually says that this is proven by the lesser feathers on the magpies' head after the seventh of seventh lunar month. Isn't it great if this legend actually exists? Besides that, the writer also says that if it rains on that night, it is the tears of this poor couple. ( It rained in the afternoon today, so is it counted? =P )

Poem about the legend: -

Among the beautiful clouds,
Over the heavenly river,
Crosses the weaving maiden.
A night of rendezvous,
Across the autumn sky,
Surpasses joy on earth.
Moments of tender love and dream,
So sad to leave the magpie bridge.
Eternal love between us two,
Shall withstand the time apart.
